Free Comic Book Day is held on the first Saturday every May.  What better way to celebrate Mark One’s birthday?  On May 5th 2012 from 9am to 5pm we  will give away over 4000 comics to an estimated 800 plus people!   Free Comic Book Day is all about promoting reading – it’s a great way to kick start that all important reading habit in the young as well as a means of reconnecting with the simple joy of reading a fun story.

Free Comic Book Day 2012 Update #1

I placed my orders for the 2012 Free Comic Book Day offerings last week. Last year’s event was our first sell out – with 2000 comics disappearing in under 3 hours (in previous years choices were still available on the day following).  This year I’ve upped our orders – offering 4000 comics to people who attend on the first Saturday in May.

We are really looking to make this year’s FCBD & Mk1 birthday our best day ever!  If you want to help spread the word – please  Tweet, facebook, start conversations, send reminders, tell your local school, local librarian, media reporter, town mayor, town gossip  and otherwise scream out!  This post will have all the latest info you need  - bookmark please!

Here’s where I mention  my usual plea – please don’t send in a request to put free comics aside – the event’s success is measured in happy faces through  the door… start making your plans to attend now – I guarantee you it will be worth the effort!

What a day!  It was our best Free Comic Book Day yet – 2000 comics given away in under 3 hours… Mk1 has never completely run out of free comic books before let alone in so short a space of time!   We owe  a big thanks to everyone who attended and helped spread the word!  A special thanks to Nick Silvester, Jeff Neems, Art Robinson & the Nexus team, Dylan Horrocks, Grant Woolston, Ree Vercoe and her Hamilton Central promotion peeps! Check out Jeff’s article on the Stuff site..
