Jul 2June Review!
The Batman books are perennial best sellers – but I was surprised by just how many copies of the Batman Long Shadows book have trucked out the door since release: http://www.mk1.co.nz/store/latest-arivals/batman-long-shadows.html Long Shadows is not one of the immediately obvious headline Bat acts (like Morrison’s RIP, Jim Lee’s Hush and Miller’s Dark Knight Returns) – but a reminder that their has been some stellar storytelling throughout Batman’s comic history. Check out all of Mk1′s Batman best sellers in our Bat-catalogue here! I’ve refreshed our Websites New Arrival page - all our recent arrivals can be viewed here. Here are a few releases of note: The wonderfully titled THE ADVENTURES OF DR MCNINJA VOLUME 01 NIGHT! BATWOMAN: ELEGY takes the Bat legend in a very different direction… The LITTLE SISTERS OF ELURIA HARDCOVER is the latest Stephen King Dark Tower book…. NEW SPRING is the comic adaption of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of TIme prequel! The Green Lantern movie was celebrated on the comic shelf with two major releases GREEN LANTERN BRIGHTEST DAY HARDCOVER and GREEN LANTERN CORPS REVOLT OF ALPHA LANTERNS HARDCOVER. The stand out series in the Weird Western sub-genre gets a new volume THE SIXTH GUN VOLUME 02. The ultimate what if Superman turned evil series IRREDEEMABLE continues to build an epic story - Volume 6 is the latest. Any month that features a new Walking Dead volume is going to be a good month WALKING DEAD VOLUME 14 NO WAY OUT. Mk1′s Disney comics offerings expanded again the DISNEY TREASURY DONALD DUCK VOLUME 01 is our latest addition!
New Comers:
The God of War trade paperback has received some excellent customer reviews – selling very well in June. We will see how July treats it – could this be our new website addition? Tank Girl: We Hate Tank Girl is another candidate – a return to the character’s anarchic and rude roots with art by one time NZ resident Rufus Dayglo. These two and the titles I highlighted last Month (the two recent-ish Marvel series Runaways and Secret Warriors) will battle it out with my own personal nomination The Goon! for a boost in stock numbers and a treasured listing in the Mk1 top 1000! Which Series wins the battle of Mk1′s Mid Year Sales Charts?
I sold more Scott Pilgrim action figures this month than Scott Pilgrim volumes - but the 6 SP volumes still reign supreme on our overall sales charts! Narrowing the focus somewhat (to the year so far) – the top graphic novels series in Mk1 are:
1. Bat books (helped out by the aforementioned Long Shadows release!) 2.The Brightest Day hardcovers 3. Walking Dead 4.Fables 5.Blackest Night Hardcover 6. Civil War 8.Scott Pilgrim 9.American Vampire 10.Okko 11.Serenity. 12.Buffy Season 8 Books 13.Dark Tower 14. Deadpool 15.Green Lantern 16.Invincible
Here’s a quick reminder of some of the other great reads that have made their way into Mk1 over the last couple of months!
